About the project

What is REFLECT?

REFLECT (Refugee-Led Exchanges for Learning, Empathy, and Critical Thinking) is an Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange initiative that connects young people across Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa.

It creates inclusive digital spaces where refugee and non-refugee youth meet as equals, share experiences, and learn from each other through structured online exchanges.

The challenge

Many young people still face barriers to education, digital access, and meaningful participation.

Education gap

Many young people, especially those in refugee contexts, have limited access to education and learning opportunities.

Digital divide

Limited connectivity and access to digital tools prevent many from participating in online learning and global opportunities.

Stereotypes and misinformation

A lack of direct exchange between communities often leads to misunderstanding, bias, and social division.

Our approach

Built on dialogue, inclusion, and shared learning

REFLECT addresses these challenges through a refugee-led and inclusive model of virtual exchange. Young people are not passive participants, but active contributors to a shared learning experience.

Refugee-led approach

Young people with lived experience actively shape and lead dialogues, bringing authenticity and perspective to the exchange.

Accessible participation

Mobile-friendly and low-bandwidth tools make it possible for young people to take part, regardless of their context.

Skill-oriented learning

Participants develop digital, communication, and creative skills through dialogue, collaboration, and real-world experiences.

What we do

REFLECT combines dialogue, digital learning, and real-world action through a set of interconnected activities.

Virtual exchanges

Peer-led online dialogues where young people connect, share experiences, and learn from each other.

Digital and entrepreneurial skills

Participants develop practical skills for the digital world, including communication, creativity, and self-initiative.

Media literacy and storytelling

Media literacy and storytelling workshops where participants explore media critically and create their own content, such as videos, podcasts, and blogs.

Civic action and volunteering

Local initiatives where participants apply their learning through community actions and social engagement.

Who is involved

REFLECT brings together young people, facilitators, and organisations across different contexts to create a shared learning experience.

Young participants

Young people from Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa, including those with refugee and marginalized backgrounds, take part in dialogues, learning activities, and civic initiatives.

Facilitators

Youth workers and young leaders guide the exchanges, creating safe and inclusive spaces for dialogue and supporting participants throughout the learning process.

Partner organisations

Universities, NGOs, and innovation hubs collaborate to design and deliver the project, connecting education, technology, and social inclusion.

Expected impact

REFLECT creates change that starts with individuals and grows across communities and contexts.

01. For individuals

Participants develop digital and soft skills, strengthen critical thinking, and gain the confidence to share their experiences and perspectives.

02. For communities

Learning extends beyond the platform through civic actions and local initiatives, helping challenge stereotypes and foster inclusion.

03. Beyond the project

REFLECT contributes to more inclusive and connected learning environments, supporting dialogue, participation, and cooperation across regions.
