Civic Action & Volunteering

From learning to local change

The REFLECT Civic Action & Volunteering activity supports young people in transforming what they have learned through virtual exchanges, digital training and storytelling into concrete initiatives in their local communities.

Participants work in small youth teams to design and implement civic action projects that respond to real community needs, such as social inclusion and youth voice empowerment.

The action pathway

From shared learning to community engagement

The civic actions are practical, collaborative and rooted in local realities. Participants are organised into small teams and supported through a light mentorship model.

1

Form youth teams

Participants work in small groups, creating space for shared responsibility and peer collaboration.

2

Co-design the idea

Teams shape their initiatives with support from facilitators and partner organisations.

3

Implement locally

Each team carries out an action in collaboration with local actors and community spaces.

4

Document and share

Participants capture photos, short videos, blog updates and testimonials to make their work visible.

The focus is not on large interventions, but on meaningful actions that show how young people can contribute to inclusion, participation and positive change in their immediate environments.
Civic actions

Small-scale initiatives with real community value

REFLECT youth teams will co-design and implement civic action projects rooted in the needs of their local communities. Each partner country will carry out at least two actions, contributing to a total of 12 initiatives across European and African contexts.

Local awareness campaigns

Youth teams create campaigns to raise awareness around social inclusion, migration, belonging, environmental responsibility or digital rights.

Intercultural events

Participants organise small community events that bring people together, promote exchange and foster mutual understanding.

Digital literacy workshops

Youth teams support peers or community members in developing basic digital skills and navigating online tools responsibly.

Anti-disinformation actions

Participants design activities or materials that help communities recognise misinformation and build more responsible information habits.

Local partnerships

Working with communities, not just for them

Each partner organisation will help match youth teams with NGOs, schools, community centres or civil society actors in their country. This ensures that youth initiatives respond to real needs and build on existing local knowledge.

Give-back initiatives

Participants may support grassroots NGOs with their digital presence, create inclusive awareness content for local causes, run youth-led workshops or host mini-events that foster intercultural understanding.

Community-based learning

These collaborations strengthen the local roots of REFLECT while giving young people the chance to act as changemakers in their own communities.
